This past Saturday in Norfolk, two of the first (and most established) breweries in the city both happened to be holding monumental events. The breweries are only a few minutes apart, thankfully, so we were easily able to partake in all of the festivities.
Our first stop was Smartmouth Brewing to help them celebrate their 5th birthday. Smartmouth is the local brewery that created my absolute favorite beer, the Alter Ego. I have had farmhouse saisons before and since, but none as flavorful as this one. I had the joy of introducing this beer to a dear friend of mine that day, and she definitely enjoyed it as well. Luckily, Smartmouth has a few IPA’s to for my husband to choose from (his favorite beer style), so there was something for everyone.
We then made our way to O’Connor Brewing Co., which was hosting its biannual “Crafted” event. The Crafted Indie Art and Craft Market brings together local artisans of all genres (natural soaps, handmade jewelry, bags, decor, fiber arts, and more). I don’t think I’ve missed a Crafted event yet (they are held every spring and fall,) and I always walk away with amazing finds. O’Connor also happens to brew my husband’s favorite local beer, El Guapo. Needless to say, the beer was flowing there too. I was having such a great time, I forgot to take any photos! I captured the one and only photo on our way out (after the craft market had shut down).
All in all, it was a wonderful day of crafts and craft beer. Definitely not a bad way to spend a Saturday!
